Flight is one of a series of kinetics combining art and engineering to produce a hybrid creation which, when the handle is cranked, transforms into a fluttering insect.

Thermopylae

 

Thermopylae's heads nod in agreement in light airs but twirl out in anger when the wind gets up.

 

This wind-driven kinetic continuously plays out the battle between black and white, Persian and Greek.

 

At nearly 2m high Thermopylae has a restless, commanding presence. Made of durable stainless steel, aluminium and lucite.
